Redken Shampoo & Conditioner Review

Redken Shampoo & Conditioner Review

It goes without saying, that if you want something to grow then you have to maintain it. For me, that applies to my decision to grow my hair out for the first time since Saturday morning cartoons still came on. Gentlemen, please take note: “Man should not go through life with the same haircut.”

I know I’m not alone, but I get tired of being yelled at for using all of my girl’s shampoo & conditioner (and smelling like milk and honey).  So I stopped at the mecca for all beauty supply products in NYC, Ricky’s and came across Redken‘s:

Mint Clean Shampoo: and Finish Up Conditioner…

I was looking for products that would accomplish four things:

1. Strengthen my hair
2. Stimulate and grow my hair
3. Clean my hair without damaging it.
4. Have a neutral or masculine smell.

Redken scores points in these four categories. I was drawn to the peppermint and protein ingredients in both the shampoo and conditioner. Peppermint oil is an essential oil that is known to help stimulate hair growth. Like your body, your hair needs protein to stay healthy & strong.

I have been using the products faithfully for 6 weeks now and my hair definitely feels stronger. No brittle strands and I’m not shedding.  This has been a problem that I have experienced whenever I pick up a shampoo that was on sale at my neighborhood pharmacy. The faint peppermint smell is not overpowering and both the shampoo and conditioner have a very clean scent.

As for hair growth…my hair is definitely growing. I’ve noticed some of thinner spots near my hairline filling out a bit.  I’m doing a lot of maintenance to grow this mane out but I’m gonna give Redken some credit. My dad is bald, and I’m in no rush to look like him.

Around the time I started using Redken, my boy Rio had me trying this hair product that had my hair feeling greasy and made my scalp itch. Don’t know why he would do that, but Redken helped me get the gunk right out of my hair and had my hair smelling clean.

All in all, dope products. I find myself loving the conditioner more than the shampoo. The shampoo does list a sulfate in the ingredients which I personally don’t like using. But to each his own.  If it works for you stick with it.
